White House Crashers Also Chapter 7 Filers
CNN, digging into the past of Tareq and Michaele Salahi, the couple who allegedly crashed President Obama’s first state dinner, found that the couples’ business recently filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
The Salahis won control of the Oasis Winery in Virginia after a series of lawsuits, reports CNN. The winery is now at the center of investigations by newsmedia and the Secret Service, although the now infamous couple has not been found.
Court records show a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing for the Oasis Winery from February of this year. From the CNN report:
Tareq Salahi is listed as company president in the filing. Listed creditors include the IRS, Fauquier County, the state of Virginia, several banks and American Express Corp., among others. The company claims about $335,000 in assets and $965,000 in liabilities.
The CNN story also says the couple is named as either a plantiff or defendant in more than a dozen lawsuits in a Virginia county just outside Washington, DC. Some of the cases involve members of the Salahi family pitted against one another.
The couple is reported to be seeking a reality TV show.
