Texas Internet Company Files Chapter 7

SkyWi customers are getting the ultimate mixed signal.

The regional wireless broadband Internet provider still has a Web site, and many of its customers still have service. But their phones have been shut off and a note hanging on the door of their office in Lakeside, Texas refers visitors to a bankruptcy trustee.
Chapter 7 bankruptcy business news, articles, filings and information
Azle News Online does some digging and finds out that SkyWi did indeed file chapter 7 bankruptcy. And while some customers may still have Internet service, they probably won’t for much longer.

Financial problems aren’t new to the Texas company. As the Azle News reports, they encountered a host of problems including:

  • After falling behind on rent for usage of a Springtown water tower for antenna space, the company was locked out of the premises in 2007 and again in 2008.
  • A similar agreement and subsequent lack of rent occurred in Pelican Bay, too.
  • Qwest Communictions claims SkyWi owes them $1.7 million, again for use of towers. Disputes over this claim led to a lawsuit in late 2008.

The money problems apparently never got cleared up, and now the company will be forced to liquidate.
